Sure. I understand the issues as I became marginally involved with early Oz discussions about GM. Problem was that ppl working in the area wanted no restrictions at all, and branded cautious as ignorant. So I aligned with those saying that independent testing must be norm for all novel products.

Read through this article. I do not mind the government spending tax dollars on the practice of discovery within the sciences, but I disagree with notion around shortcuts and allowing the "softening" of regulatory SOPs that are instated to regulate the food we consume on a daily basis.

CRISPR generates very specific mutations that could occur without intervention given enough time. Nothing else is changed in the plant genome. Why then shouldn’t crops generated with 1000s of mutations from exposure to radiation be subjected to regulation? Doesn’t make sense

The lawsuit was brought by the Center for Food Safety, a non profit advocacy group that opposes modern plant breeding and spreads quite a bit of misinformation. I suspect that the ruling will not stand upon appeal (although please note that I am a geneticist not a lawyer so don’t really know).
