You quote Jack Pitney, whom you called an "autism expert" & researcher. Dude wrote 1 book about au and politics, has no Google Scholar profile, & a search there finds no research articles he's written related to au. There are many experts in SPED law/policy & in au research. Do your due diligence.

It depends on whether the state has its own special ed laws. I live in a blue state that does- so kids education overall will be impacted- but kids with disabilities will still have protections.

I think SEPACS(which is what they call the parent special ed councils in my state) need to get on it.

I am not in the business of defending the status quo for how the Department of Education serves students with disabilities. The federal government never lived up to its promise to fully fund IDEA. It hasn't been reauthorized in two decades. I want it to work.

But Trump's policies would not materially improve students with disabilities' lives. Students at private schools frequently have fewer rights. And Project 2025 proposed turning IDEA into "no-strings" block grants, removing the enforcement mechanism.

Thank you! Again, I don't want to defend the status quo of how America educates students with disabilities. It's terrible. Parents have to get lawyers to fight for their kids' rights. IEPs often use a deficit-based model. I WANT IT TO WORK. Chucking out DoE would not fix it.

Yeah. My kid has an IEP and it is a freaking struggle to get it honored, even in a "good" district. But at least accommodations exist for kids with disabilities. The alternative is terrifying. And the most vulnerable kids are already so underserved.
