Explaining how tariffs work so even #Bullshit-Barbie Leavitt can understand.
You have a job, get paid, tax is taken out of your wages, you go to the shops to buy a $100 worth of food, it now costs $125 because YOU are paying the 25% tariff - it is an additional tax on YOU - not on China not Canada
And NO ONE knows where all the money has gone. ELUMP has cancelled THOUSANDS of contracts worth MILLIONS of dollars. Where is the money? Where has it gone? No one knows. Where is the fucking money?
Some of it has already been paid out, which makes a lie of the savings. Tariffs are going to go into a Wwealth fund supposedly...and the rest will be as mysteriously gone as the 1.4 Billion from Tesla.
My niece is in 10th grade, and she made a video interviewing me and another woman about our opinions and experiences with the pink tax. I told her how ridiculously expensive and unfair it is for NECESSARY feminine products and how store owners KNOW THIS and take advantage. Now, it's gonna be worse.
AND stores are starting to lock this stuff up, so you have to buzz someone over to get your productsβincluding facial cleanser and makeup! itβs insult to injury.
As a single mom of 3 I know how to survive on little (and make it look good), I will be laughing at tRump voters who will be up a crick without a paddle. I've planned for my poorness.
So I've just spent the past three years listening to women and reading research about how much women pay to exist and spoiler alert: It's VERY EXPENSIVE.
My wife often buys T shirts, belts etc from the men's section, often cheaper than the same/similar items in the women's section.
When she was pregnant, she even bought men's underwear as well, not only cheaper, but apparently designed better to go under a protruding belly!
also with companies like Gillette who price menβs and womenβs razors identical (under the guise of erasing the pink tax) menβs razors are far superior in quality.
Rut ro! This is bad news for the 4th ReichTwat lot lizards who cruise the grounds of Mar-o-Lardo on the hunt for cocaine and some nazi bedroom shenanigans.
You might be wondering "Anna, what other stuff could the tariffs impact?" And I would say: THE HAIR INDUSTRY.
Have you been to a beauty supply store? Everything is basically imported from China. And who does that impact the most? Black and minority women. This is #TheDoubleTax.
lol maybe you all don't know this, but the cost of getting braided styles is rising....like by A LOT.
I paid $400 for my braided style and I'm on THE LOWER END. If the tariff kicks in for all imported goods from China, guess who has to pay more to look presentable? This too is #TheDoubleTax.
I gotta hold my fire before my publicist whacks me but my point here is that being a woman AT BASELINE is already expensive, especially across racial lines. These tariffs just exacerbate the inequality further.
In conclusion, (black) women stock up on hair and beauty products. #blacksky #wetired
Anna, I will braid your hair for $50. We will have a great time, I will feed you chocolate, and give you hugs. But your hair will look like shit. (I'll give you a scarf.)
If the United States saw what the United States was doing to the United States, the United States would invade the United States, deliberate the United States from the United States
I hope your book also talks about the additional cost women incur for their boobs-bras alone! But also, better mamos cuz the science of boobs hasn't been updated since?!?!
Something in me said, go online and order plan b right now. For the future. Just in case. Wisp dot com has a 6 pack with a welcome 15 discount. Protect yourselves ladies!!!!
Also, chiming in to say it starts YOUNG, too. My girl goes to a nature preschool, so she needs clothing that stands up to rough outdoor fun. Most clothing I find marketed to girls is lower quality and more expensive than clothing marketed to boys.

Okay, now back to tariffs.
The pink tax is REAL There are similar products on the shelves of stores you visit that are priced higher for women, which is WHY tariffs don't help.
When she was pregnant, she even bought men's underwear as well, not only cheaper, but apparently designed better to go under a protruding belly!
These tariffs could hit the beauty industry in a BIG way and make products that are already pricey because of the pink tax MORE PRICEY.

Absolutely ridiculous.
I buy mostly second-hand, but never thought to see if there's a price difference in thrift stores. I should look.
Anyway, thank you for writing this thread & the book!
