Mum of two Jane Dutton has made the call to shut down her kids' social media before the ban comes into effect from the end of next year. Like many parents, she felt pressure to allow her children onto the platforms in the first place.

If I had social media when I was figuring out my sexuality, I would have gone through a great deal less trauma, and now they have arbitrarily taken away this forum from kids...
Too many parents are hands off, expecting the education department, the health department, and other parents at sports clubs and associations to do the heavy lifting.
What has SM got to do with governing?
Every minor terrible thing to affect some automatically now becomes an issue for everyone.
Yet the real issues causing harm.... fukn crickets
Career Corrupt duopoly MPs hate us
I can’t say I know too many partners who have issues with SM.
But I hear a lot more who have issues with FortNite.
Most men shouldn’t go near a Bunnings or JB Hifi without parental supervision.

everybody knows brainwashing is better than critical thinking when it comes to controlling juveniles...
If you are a parent just reflect on what parents put in their kids lunch boxes as an example.

That and I was supposed to fix their marriage.
Neither worked for long.
This is an economic problem.
So sick of excuses and whinging from parents who made the choice to have kids.
We are hardwired to procreate.
We can have kids and fall into economic or psychological hardship.
Who are we to decide who can and can’t have kids.
‘Good parents’ can make terrible mistakes.
I know a child whose carer had no idea what they were doing online & even when told still did nothing to stop them & there are there’s ongoing issues around this
The net has myriad more benefits than perils.
My point still stands. Not all parents give a crap about what they kids are doing online so there’s a pretty good chance that they wouldn’t care if they were getting high in a car park either
Kids use it to play, to research, to connect with others, find 'inspo' - whatever.
They will do it anyway.
Grandstanding about it is ridiculous.
It's a world-first because it's dumb.
Apologies.
Couldn’t do anything else to help vulnerable people could we.
Which I suspect many will as a workaround.
They're places people like Elon and the Russian FSB hang out in.
My kids don’t have social media or smartphones, but I still welcome the ban because it helps. Unless social media is safe for kids, it’s better to keep them safe from it.
Also a pretty strong example of the decline in standards. The "relatable punter" trope needs to be outlawed. Esp @ ABC
They make the thing you ban more desirable and harder to control.
Education. It's all education.
And accountability.
Make big social media companies pay and over night, all the trolls and bullies are gone.
