Don’t know who needs to hear this but go ahead and use those good art supplies because if you manage to survive the apocalypse you can just scavenge replacements from a dead artist’s hoard.

This message is for me - thank you. Today is the day we use that giant 50” artists canvass we’ve been hoarding. I also live just a 10 minute walk from Michael’s and after the bombs drop that’s our first raid.
Totally get it and same. When I had a little money and my pencils were on sale, I would grab as many as I could because I was afraid one day I wouldn’t be able to afford them
Michael’s here used to offer mobile coupons and on certain days they would double them, I cleaned up on those. And at least once a year Amazon would be selling full sets of Prismacolor Premiers for something stupid like $65. I also caught smaller sets when they were dirt cheap
No, just keep hoarding and then hoard all the other artist's good stuff so you can be like an art dragon on your pile of good supplies that you're waiting for the right moment to use
As a ceramicist I can offer a selection of heavy metal salts and carbonates. Some real gold overglaze (in a foul smelling vial) and a large selection of tools, stamps and sieves. You need something sieved down until it is fine and silky? Raid my house when I decide to just walk away into the forest.
Look for the oil painters first, then the architects. Former usually has turpentine, latter can drop a heavy T-Square on top of the usual xacto refills.
Apocalypse aside, I recently started doing this. I had aquarelles and pastels that I had never used because of insecurities and not knowing how. I figured there's no way I will learn with them just sitting on my shelf. Why hoard? When for? It's never a waste if you're enjoying yourself
Also sometimes better art supplies actually have an impact on technique (for instance paints with more pigment layer on differently and handle differently), so better to learn with the better stuff so you’re not re-learning later.

to last 400 years
a good long stretch.
It makes you paranoid;
hence the hoarding.
We ran the bitch into the
ground in 2019.
It was pure ecstasy.
