President Trump on Monday ordered a pause in the enforcement of a federal law aimed at curbing corruption in multinational companies, saying it creates an uneven playing field for American firms.

What could possibly go wrong? Pausing enforcement may be something he can do temporarily, but not permanent. That is something SCOTUS most likely will decide soon. https://youtu.be/da-JBwwQxMs
Someone bribing a foreign entity might also be breaking state laws so I think we'll be hearing from SCOTUS about "criminal" qualified immunity this year

Is use of “convicted felon” to describe Trump not only relevant, given the subject, but required here?
If not in this reporting, when?

"If we don't let our companies bribe politicians in other countries, it will make it harder for me to rake in bribes from foreign companies. We've got to level the playing field."
Trump has no regard for the law, and certainly isn’t going to follow it. He doesn’t respect judges because he thinks he is King. We must show him he’s not.
Hope NYT is happy with the President they helped put in office with all the Biden bashing (how dare he not give us an interview) and Trump downplaying and sanewashing.
Trump signs pause saying 'now is the time to give me as much money as you can as soon as you can before those pesky judges make me follow the law again'.
Ridiculous. Facilitating grease payments were already permitted. Here comes worldwide corruption on a massive scale. Oil pipeline officials must be now salivating with the luxury goods and gifts they will be drowning it. Disgusting.
Yes, trump is on the ball, since he used blackmail to get support for his campaign amongst the oil and tech tycoons, he thinks bribery and blackmail should be legal, and American business should participate in it.
4 days ago, Bondi was given a directive that Foreign bribery with a nexus to the U.S. will continue to be investigated, particularly where it has a tie to drugs, money laundering, firearms and human trafficking.
Foreign bribery that does not have such a nexus – for example, bribing a... 1/
...foreign official to procure a multimillion-dollar energy contract or bribing a foreign official to maintain a lucrative airport concession – will receive fewer resources and less attention.
Yesterday, there's a PAUSE on enforcing bribing foreign officials. WTF is happening?
All of these ‘orders’ are Trump saying he’s not going to uphold the law or he is violating the law. Congress has done nothing. SCOTUS setup this nightmare scenario by saying the President is immune while in office.
How can I, as an individual contributor for my company, operate at a higher standard of ethical behavior than the President of the United States? This is yet another degradation of the rule of law specifically to help him and his cronies.
The issue is about the effective spending of government money or functions unrelated to the agency's mission. This is merely a pause, not a closure, so please do not overreact.
You missed the point. This isn't about use of govt $$. Trump's saying that foreign companies are allowed to bribe politicians abroad so US companies should be allowed to do it too. Law has been on the books since 1977. He just wants his own Co and Musk's to be able to give bribes in other countries.
This is why politicians, especially presidents, are meant to divest themselves from their business interests while in public office. He wants better business deals for his hotels abroad and to do that he wants to grease palms without worrying about US "morals".
Last I heard Trump doesn’t have authority to do This. It is Not his ceasefire to cancel. Not his military to strike (and even if it was would require authorization from Congress)
So Republican Caligula can magically stop laws from being enforced now eh? +This nonsense has been Republican table talk for decades. Corruption as a business requirement? Bring me my fainting couch….
I guess he lied when he said he'd execute the laws faithfully during his oath. Or maybe he thought *executed* meant like what the Saudis did to Khashoggi.

Please start reporting facts, not spun press releases.
We're supposed to normalize bribery?
