Souleymane Cissé, an award-winning writer and director who became the first Black African filmmaker to win the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, died on Wednesday. He was 84.

To anyone who wants to start with Cissé, I highly recommend "Yeelen". It's streaming now on Kanopy.
I always hoped his (criminally underseen) work would become more available as we got further into the streaming era. But it's never too late!
