The lawyer representing Smith needs a security clearance since classified docs (and others similarly sensitve) are central to one of the cases Smith was prosecuting against trump. That's why trump pulled the clearance. He's petty, vindictive, and very, very guilty.

Any POTUS has the authority to revoke security clearances, as well as grant them. Recall how Biden revoked Trump's clearance soon after taking office. It's also how Trump was able to give Kushner clearance when he shouldn't have had it.
