Novo Nordisk will cut the price of its weight loss medication Wegovy to $499 per month for certain patients who pay using their own money instead of going through insurance, the drug maker said on Wednesday.

Not arguing your point about affording healthcare coverage, but there are so many plans out there that won't cover these meds for weight loss. It's so short sighted. I guess they would rather you end up with diabetes and paying for dialysis.
Honestly, if I had $500 to spare every month for a very long time (life), I might see about hiring a chef instead. Or maybe put it toward the cost of healthy food - which is quite expensive btw.
so short sighted for insurers and government health services not to cover these drugs which are game changers for reducing diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease and liver disease
wrong. people don't die quickly of kidney failure, they go on dialysis for decades and get heart disease, or get transplants which cost huge amounts of money.
Coming to the UK soon under Fagash the fascist. Hopefully his guff recently will get enough Reform voters to reconsider. He's a grifter like Trump and it's about making himself richer to the detriment of the country..
Folks forget that the price they pay is after the distributors, pharmacies and pharmacy benefit managers take a cut. Some insurance companies also own the pharmacies and profit off full price. The US has consistently voted against socialized medicine, which is one reason we have higher prices
And they are still probably making around 9000% profit.
Isn't there, oh, I don't know, some sort of actual world changing NEWS you could be reporting on vs. shilling for Big Pharma?

In UK it costs £99 :) good luck Americans choosing Trump 😂 you bills for meds and hospitals always be super high because your president doesn’t care if you obese or sick. He cares more of trade wars and invading his neighbours

Meanwhile people that medically really need this kind of drugs compete with a lifestyle choice. South Park, once again, portraied it beautifully.
Remind me what it really costs to make this drug, and what it costs outside of the United States.
"who pay using their own money instead of going through insurance"
That's a nice way to sugar coat that people can't afford healthcare coverage.
And it isn't to help the sick.
Basically a rip off by design.
The issue is that the insurance companies don’t want to see anything as an actual solution.
Insurance companies make money by not spending your premiums…
Drug companies, pharmacies, and all of that supply chain make money by charging you more.
Insurance companies make money by taking in your fees and not paying out benefits.
Acting like the system isn’t purposefully predatory to limit your access and make you pay
The only time the system has been aimed at delivering care is when the government mandates it.
for people can afford to
lose weight, so we don't
eat the rich.
Per pen in the UK
