News Analysis: Democratic leaders opted for a soberly delivered, centrist counter to President Trump’s first major address of his second term, but the dominant image of the party’s pushback was a liberal congressman waving his cane in protest.

I've made clear my thoughts that Dems needed not just to sit there and listen to a president divide the nation, slander them and Biden, denigrate them and call out Sen Warren by name for ridicule. At a bare minimum, they needed to be united and disciplined in their response. Instead of clown show
Where are our leaders?!! Where are @petebuttigieg.bsky.social and Kamala, the Obamas, and the Bidens? Seventy two million voted for you. Have you just timed out on America?
they had the opportunity to bring veterans who were fired from their jobs, helping veterans about to commit suicide. And they wore pink. Lord! these people are bad at what they do!
A party divided? Or an example of different people expressing their opposition and disgust in different ways? It’s almost like the democrats are….diverse.
Considering the stakes for our nation, EVERY Democratic member of Congress should have endeavored to get kicked out of Trump's speech. But hey Dems, keep playing by imaginary rules, wave goofy little signs, and LOSE. It's only America, no? 🇺🇸
Yup. Divided between those who want to oppose lawlessness and those who want to make pointless gestures like waving signs and having a Pepto-Bismol parade as they show up for their own ass-kicking.
Centrism didn’t work in 2016, progressivism beat him in 2020, then we tried to go center again in November and surprise it didn’t work again. Progressive policies aren’t extreme, they work and people know that.
Face it: Biden moved to the left to court the progressive wing and that played a huge role in his victory. How did the moderate Clinton go? Defeat. How did Kamala moved to the center go? Defeat. “Centrism” is what alienates the voters that come out in the general.
Too late to resist, he must be defeated before he gets rid of all of them! He will not put up with their foolish divided attempts to respond forever. He tends to rid himself of all impediments to his reign.
It seems that the Democratic party is pathetically ineffective in opposing the destruction of the USA's institutions and reputation. As for the Constitution - it's never been less relevant or so totally ignored.
The party is led by elderly moderates who have failed to cultivate and promote young progressives. They had a chance to change this when they chose a new DNC chairman last month, but they punted by selecting a "safe" Minnesota moderate guaranteed not to offend -- or motivate -- anyone.
Democrats need to wake the fuck up and fight fire with fire. These are not normal times, your democracy is being dismantled in front of your eyes. Do something.
That’s a bit of a clue as to why the Democrats are so feckless. They’re still intent on capturing the middle. It’s like flipping off a missile as it heads right toward you.
-MTG and Lauren Bobert repeatedly heckle Biden during the ’22 SOTU
-MTG (again)shouts “liar” during Biden’s Address in ‘23
-MTG (yet again) shouts “say her name” (referring to Laken Riley) during Biden’s ’24 address.
Guess the GOP has selective outrage regarding “decorum"

Why all the hand wringing about Al Green?
Does no one remember these greatest GOP hits:
-Joe Wilson shouts “You Lie” during Obama’s Address to Congress in ‘09

Let’s not forget another caning incident that involved Black people: when Charles Sumner, an antislavery Massachusetts congressman, was nearly beaten to death by Representative Preston Brooks, a pro-slavery South Carolinian. Brooks slammed his metal-topped cane onto the unsuspecting Sumner's head.
The Democrats are mostly centrist Republicans, bought and paid for! They’re not going to put up a fight. They’ll most likely even vote for some of Trump’s bills.
That’s bc what’s needed now isn’t business as usual, I.e., “sober and centrist”. No! What We the People want and need right now is more Al Green and a lot less Chuck Schumer!
Watch the conversation in Netflix’s “Mr. McMahon” in which they consider upping the drama and conflict for better receipts: it is a big show for The Felon’s team.
In other news, @nytimes.com opted to appease an aspiring "dictator" by pretending he was a normal candidate, but he's going to put them in the gulag anyway.
The time for the plain yogurt approach is over. Time to stand up, call it like it is, be the real alternative, or get the fuck out the way. Dems time to fumble the ball is over.

Wearing pink shirts? That’s the most lame protest I’ve ever seen.

The dominant image of the NYT is enabling Trump for the last 10 years

Please, just shut down
Every Democrat there should have stood with him.

Each one adds to the next so by the end of the 90 minute speech they all would be standing in unison "LIAR"
But they sat on their butts and let an elderly black man stand alone
The meek will not inherit our government. You will not successfully oppose tyranny with quiet whispers of dissent.
more usa criminals then ever are being given jail or join the army option
Trump inflated the number of people who entered the US illegally under president Joe Biden
Economists differ with Trump on tariffs
Trump did not inherit an ‘economic catastrophe’
