Swan news. On Saturday I could hear lots of flapping in the river & commotion from my next door neighbours. I ran out in my pyjamas. π¦’ territory battle. Interloper male nearly drowned and killed papaβ¦

Oh my goodness, how awful for you to see that and itβs good that Papa trusted you enough to go into your house π I never knew swans were territorial..we donβt want the interlopers, we want Mama and Papa π’
Oh no.... So glad he survived. But what a tribute to you, that he knew he would be safe in your house. Poor Papaπ. I hope they will be safe in the water gardens...
This is so awful to read π±. I take it interloper is fighting for your garden and that particular stretch of the river? Nothing you can do to dissuade the interloper? I wish I could help π’
Oh my goodness, I missed this post (used to follow on X, so glad to see you here), what a dreadful thing to happen I am beyond glad you pulled him out and he sheltered at yours. Iβd be out hissing at the interlopers, letβs hope they get fed up and leave. π€π»π€π»
β¦ neighbour was trying to separate them with a big pole. Interloper was on top of papa, but also had papa trapped right into the bank and under a bush. I was ready to jump in the river in my PJsβ¦
β¦it was the most awful and brutal and heartbreaking thing to watch as you can imagine. The thought that I might see papa π¦’killed and floating. The panic. Somehow he momentarily broke away and managed to get to the end of my gardenβ¦
β¦he was trying to get out but exhausted. Interloper was still on his back as he tried to climb out so I had to pull him out of the river and he ran to my house.
He ran into my house exhausted. Life saved. At one point he saw the interlopers patrolling the river and he ran deeper into the house, evidently petrified. He stayed inside from 10.30am to 7.45pm when he cautiously leftβ¦
That sounds really scary, and you were so brave to help him. I hope you and papa swan have recovered and he's feeling strongerπ₯°
Nasty interlopers..... but could they be some of yours?
Hopefully mama and papa swan will stand their ground and peace/calm in your little 'swan kingdom' will be restored π
β¦ he and mama are in the water gardens. I think they have lost their territory although Swan Support have advised me that just because he was beaten once, he could be victorious in another battle. ππ¦’β€οΈ
Oh no! That must have been distressing for you to see.
Iβm glad that theyβre safe even though itβs a shame theyβre not at home.
Will you discourage the usurpers, or just let them settle?
OMG! This is so shocking. But I suppose they could even be adult cygnets from previous years. Thank goodness you (and neighbour) were there to help Papa. And thank goodness he had your house as sanctuary. I hope all has settled down now. π€
Papa Swan has had a hard time in the last year. If he spends time in the water garden, he may get himself together again and return to you. I have a feeling your time with Mama & Papa Swan is not over. Very grateful you were able to get him out because the interloper just wants him off the stretch.
This is terrible but am happy that he sought refuge inside the house knowing heβd be safe there. All these years and a nasty interloper trying to force him away from his home π.
Oh this is truly heartbreaking for you to witness. Swan world is brutal when it comes to territory. So pleased papa swan was able to seek refuge with you for a while π€π¦’
All the best for papa swan and hope youβve recovered from the shock.
It would be a shame if the interloper managed to frighten mama and papa swan away.
Hello Charlotte I have followed you on X (twitter) for sometime but moved here. I loved yr news of Mama & Papa & signets. I was overjoyed when Papa came back! So distressing to learn he has been in a battle with another swan. Thank goodness he isn't hurt. I hope they are back in your garden soon!π

How awful though that the interloper is doing this!
I'm glad I found you on π¦
