The good ole days when the first family were humble humans. We had a reminder for the last 4years but it wasn’t good enough for the selfish conservatives in America.
What would Melania have said in response to green peas appearing on the menu: probably something like "f*ck you, stupid imbecile, don't you know better?" But, I'm just guessing.
I think my favorite quote ever from a U.S. President was when George H.W. Bush said, “I do not like broccoli. And I haven’t liked it since I was a little kid, and my mother made me eat it. And I’m President of the United States, and I’m not going to eat any more broccoli!” 🥦🥦🥦
Ten months / one gardening season after Carter's inauguration I would have thought it was common Camp-David-kitchen knowledge that he didn't particularly like green peas.
There was a time when squirrel (Garfield loved squirrel soup) was a popular White House dish, but that was in the 19th Century. That being said I think with RFK Jr. the White House squirrels should be careful when he is around.
Since the 1913 passing of Harris Vose, who had been the provider of the Presidential thanksgiving feast, various farmers had been angling to be the replacement. In 1926 a farmer from Mississippi sent the raccoon, and Coolidge who hadn't eaten raccoon decided to keep it as a pet. 1/x
So this raccoon got to have the run of the place, and was quite mischievous in that it loved to unscrew light bulbs, open cabinets, etc. It even had her own tree house, and loved to play in the bathtub that was filled with a little water and a bar of soap. 2/x
Michael - you are much needed in the world right now - I hope your voice is given a very large platform. A position as congressional historian or senate historian might give our legislatures pause before they act against democracy.
in the south, we call the green ones English peas. The real peas are blackeyes or purple hulls.
And by green beans, I would mean the flat string beans, not the small round ones.
I imagine Jimmy Carter and family liked their fresh green beans simmered slowly on a back burner with a ham hock in the pot. Nothing better, at least at our old Georgia family Thanksgiving gatherings.

Jimmy and I are like two peas in a pod.
Pres. Carter was, after all, a peanut farmer.

The range of Presidential pets goes from your standard dogs and cats to grizzly bears, alligators, and at least one lion. 3/3
We named him Rocky and kept him for a week or so until we rehomed him to an animal rescue.
What a cutie! I can’t imagine eating one.
Coolidge is one of my favorite Presidents and I did not know this.

Sweet potatoes are Georgian.
I can't imagine a WH chef ever using frozen vegetables for a grand holiday dinner.
