Funny thing a couple of years ago that Shazam and Captain Marvel were released with a couple of months. I seem to recall that DC changed the name to Shazam after a lawsuit. Marvel, of course, have had three different characters with that name. Weird.

Neil Gaiman's lawsuit against Todd McFarlane has had a funny side effect: Gaiman originally wrote her for Spawn, but after that Angela has kept popping up in random Marvel comics. She was even Thor's sister in one.

Yeah, there was some complex / messy trade-off with Marvel so that they could use Marvelman / Miricleman (which Alan Moore didn't want them to have). I forget the details - it was all very messy. He got rights to Angela (which McFarlane claimed was his?), and maybe marvel paid him to buy Angela...

McFarlane just paid Gaiman a lump sum for one Spawn issue, but neglected to sign a contract for the use of that character afterwards. McFarlane went bankrupt after that trial.
