We had a similar phenomenon in South Africa as our murder rate halved between the end of apartheid and 2011. The press only started talking about it once it started increasing again. It’s still far lower than in 95 but most SAns believe it’s gone up every year since then.

Tbh Sweden is Europe's most extreme country and not a particularly pleasant country to visit, regardless of what statistics say. This isnt because of the migrants though, it is because of the swedes and their intolerance to individual thinking. All other Nordic countries are wonderful though.

2) If you read intl press, you'd be forgiven for thinking Sweden had murder numbers never seen before. That's bullshit. The homicide rate has been steady around 1.10 per 100,000 for many decades (with some outlier years). But 2024 saw very big drop. Down by 25% in just one year.

I lived in Sweden for 2½ years, and used to ride my bike through one of the two dozen "most dangerous places in Sweden" at in the dark, on my way back from IKEA and the grocery store. I never felt unsafe doing that. In the US, every place I've lived has more dangerous places.
