The world made a terrible mistake literally banking on the USA. Everybody needs to get as far away from that fast-bleeping time-bomb country as soon as possible. The accelerating corruption barely disguised as political lobbying made a Trump scenario inevitable.

On this day in 1988, 20,000 LGBTQ people and our allies marched through the streets of Manchester to protest Section 28, which tried to stifle all mention of our lives. At the time it was the largest gay rights gathering ever. Pic: The crowd seen from the top of the Town Hall. #LGBT+HistoryMonth

Ursula K. Le Guin - 'If a soldier is imprisoned by the enemy, don't we consider it his duty to escape? The moneylenders, ... the authoritarians have us all in prison; if we value the freedom of the mind and soul, ... then it's our plain duty to escape, and to take as many people with us as we can?'

Depression is a protective urge; a chemical drive to return you to the safety of your innermost den to wait for a storm to pass, a bone to knit, a wound to heal. Civilization provides eternal psychic wounds from which there is no relief to be found in retreat, a storm which will never blow away.

Remember friends, if you want to make future history addicts happy, hide messages for them everywhere you can at any opportunity! Lift a floorboard, fix a wall, brick up a hole... put something in there! www.bbc.com/news/article...

"We will have many opportunities to demonstrate our value to Secretary Kennedy in the coming weeks and months." is toadie suck up talk. We are so fucking hosed. The Continuing Crisis, Part V: What the NIH Is Telling Its People | Science | AAAS www.science.org/content/blog...

Minor correction. I don't think it is a "deep, persistent incomprehension of how scientific research works and what it provides" so much as a deep *rejection* of how science research works and what it provides. The Continuing Crisis, Part IV | Science | AAAS www.science.org/content/blog...

Songs from the 1940s fall into two categories: “Kiss me darling for I may die in the wars tomorrow and never see you again” And “He’s the Booble Bubble Boy on the Boat From the Blue! Woo woo be doo! Booble Bubble Boy!”

Sometimes, I reflect on the way that the web has changed over the years. I began my online journey sometime in the mid 80s when I connected to a local BBS called Nexus, hosted at a nearby library.

So valuable (and hilarious - Zuck pretending he’s a bow-hunter on Rogan and it being so obvious he’s lying? Priceless)

I've been writing a series of essays for PBS on men whose style I admire. The latest is about James Baldwin, a man who knew how to sing through clothes. www.pbs.org/wnet/america...

Just so you know #reebok is now an official sponsor of genocide. Avoid that garbage like the plague. No one's forgetting the collaborators. And this time we won't be swayed afterwards by crocodile tears.

Could I love #thelimiñanas any more? Music video a gorgeous #davidlynch homage.

Hitler, who I do not support, never would have embraced genocide, which I also do not support, if the Weimar shitlibs hadn't tried so hard to deplatform him. by Glenn Greenwald

Summer 1936 portrait of Gitano / Roma militiaman with anarchist scarf. One of many remarkable photos from recently discovered box of negatives of Barcelona in Spanish Civil War by Antoni Campañà. Beautifully colourised by Julius Backmaan. Power of working class saying no pasarán.

I’m hearing that Johnson & Johnson has banned the term DEI from any employee communications. More advance compliance from non-governmental entities.

US National Security Adviser says Ukraine President "need to tone it down and take a hard look and sign that deal," What he means is - hand some of your country to Russia, 50% of your mineral wealth to Trump, starve your people. Gangster politics is no basis for lasting peace.

We just unlocked a strategy to get gun control legislation.

Can you believe that in 2025 pro-apartheid white supremacist South Africans are still embarrassing us. They won’t fucking leave. And they won’t accept their status as equal citizens. And they’re so fucking dumb that they think we’ll give them an ethnostate? Absolute human garbage.

More evidence of harms inflicted by private equity on US healthcare. Usual pattern: profiteering, hiking debt, low investment, poor patient care and safety. Yet UK NHS being handed to private equity without any evidence, 30%-40% public money vanishes in profits. Money buys less.

There's a common path in the development of authoritarian or totalitarian regimes, regardless of whether they are overseen by Catholic Inquisitors, Protestant enforcers, monarchists, fascists, Nazis, Stalinists, Maoists .... First they eliminate words. Then they eliminate people.

I feel like Americans really should read this, and then study everything South Africa did to end it. State Capture isn’t a joke and the damage it does to the country is massive. Yours is being run on fast forward.

Lolyup. South African democracy came through by the skin of its teeth and maybe the US will too. Brazil also seems past the worst. Democracy remains too popular to easily kill once people have a taste of it.

The world can no longer trust the United States of America.

Long story, short: Government of Panama wanted 16% royalties on a polluting copper mine in a rainforest. Company refused, and threatened to close the mine. Government called their bluff, and now the company has a stranded asset it invested $10 billion in. on.ft.com/4kcio6i
