My 1st job was in Newark DE. 75 miles round trip and 1.5 hrs of driving everyday. I hated it, but the job market sucked in 2012. I wanted to live/work in the same city and commute without a car, but job sprawl caused by Philly’s business and wage taxes forced driving culture on me.

“Millions are driving 50 miles each way to work. … It can be the only way to reach affordable housing.

“I often hear: ‘That’s American culture. Everyone prefers to drive. That’s how it got this way.‘

“This story is historically wrong. It serves as an excuse to do nothing about the status quo.”
