The name literally meaning ”grandmother”, this pastry has its roots in East Europe, especially in Ukraine & Poland. It’s a rich, sweet product somewhere in between a bread & a cake. While chocolate is nowadays the most popular filling, it used to originally be made with fruit jam or cinnamon. #food

This particular babka is obtained from a busy neighbourhood bakery in Paris 10 called Mamiche.

The beautiful chocolate marbling of the babka is a pleasure for the eyes. The inside looks soft and buttery, with a sticky chocolate paste that is shiny at points due to the melted chocolate. #food 🍜

There are also some chocolate chips inside that provide some changes in texture and moments of intense chocolate flavour. The crust is beautifully golden brown or dark chocolate coloured.
