Yeah, but property rights are not as secure in Dubai. Which is why so many russian oligarchs bought villas, mansions, and pallais in Milan, Paris, Vienna, Munich, London, and Nice. And those are where they dumped their spoiled brats in February 2022.
Serious question: Is there a reason that the governments of those nations can’t just seize those assets based on sanctions on Russia, and deport the brats back to where they belong?
Biden seized a bunch of Russian-owned assets in the US when they first invaded, can European nations not do that?
It's an interesting thing about Russian state capitalism. The whole country is a corporation that treats its citizen like employees (with shitty contracts). That leads to many high figures and propagandists behaving like managers that strictly separate their work and private life.
It's like many Russians, even glowing nationalists, treat their country as their company. And outside of 9 to 5, you don't think about your company. When you're abroad on vacation, you may check news and share prices of your employer but don't feel obliged to care more than that.
Well Russia understands that if it were to attack western nations, it could not win a land war, and a nuclear war would end with him losing either way.
Nuclear saber rattling has always been a signaling tool more than anything else.
