Tbf, Rome was on the decline before the Goths burnt it, but yea, of the modern global powers, the US’s decline atm is the most shameful. Unless things reverse course in 2026, the US’s fate is sealed.

Perhaps the closest case to what is happening today in the US is the downfall of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (rich Szlachta bought by Russia, rich Polish nobles looking only for themselves, foreign interference, and a lover of the Russian Tsar).

I'd say Trump is just a symptom of our weakness. We let Russia influence our digital space freely until it built an alternative reality that is completely detached from any facts and resistant to any criticism.
Half of Trump's cabinet are edgy political social media influencers.
