Why would anyone form an alliance with the US ever again? The US has shown the entire world that our word is meaningless, and we’ll always just be one election away from throwing all our obligations and promises into the trash.

There’s no reason for any European nation to ally with the US again.

Maga is the new normal, they won't go away. America will need its own Maidan to get rid of them again. The media has already bowed to Trump and the corporate democrats are one of the reasons why they could gain power in the first place. They won't resist in any meaningful way.

I think in the near term future regardless of what happens the US is in for chaos and instability, and its ability to play a significant role in the outside world will be seriously diminished. Best for all to make plans about the world without America (at least short term) regardless.

I don't think we should consier it the new normal or a fluke. Democracies have enemies and resurgent autocracy is the new 'big bad'.
USA has fallen to it just like other countries did in the past. We should help it liberate itself from tyrany while protecting ourselves and our allies and friends.

Europe must go alone. If and when the US abandons its flirtation with fascism, a new friendship may emerge, distinct from the past. The magic is gone, but our shared history and values remain. We should always remember that US leadership ended over 1000+ years of recurring intra European wars.

This is the right mentality. The US of the 20th century is well and truly gone. Hopefully a new US will come out of this wreckage, one that other nations can trust and rely on, but we need to go through our own reckoning as a nation before that will be possible.

There are 75 million Americans that are not complacent nor deem this fascist movement to remain. Whether it is a fluke or a continued decline in America remains to be seen. If Trump dies or if his followers become disillusioned, we shall see. Come 2026 we'll have a litmus test on that.

whether MAGA is a fluke or not (i dont think so, i think it is a trend in a sociatl and political reshuffle) is irrelevant. the relevant part is that it showed us that placing our sovereignty on another nation is fatal, avoiding this kind of dependence has to be our priority from here on out

Its something that can only be known in hindsight, unfortunately. If Trump or his successor loses re-election, there are real consequences for him Elon and those around them (prison, etc.), real reforms to the US government, reign in the oligarch class and deal with disinformation...
