The entire proces is all but gone from europe, and for good reason. Why would it come back? It make any sense. We dont have any spare capacity to invest high educated manpower into a low cost low interest product like this. Im in textiles, i love textiles, but its just not happening.

More automation would mean more standardized products. Many people prefer more complex styles in garments. So, change will happen slowly.

Like you said more standardized products, but the succes of Shein showed that the appetite for smaller batches is there. I just don't see it happening in Europe, not on the scale desired. (and Im not even talking about Chinese robots...)

Oh for sure. That's not the point. The point is that in general Europe is getting too rich/expensive to be in textile production. And if you can hire robot service people, would you want them to work in textiles? I'd say no. Not in the bulk you'd need.

But the whole production of yarn and fabrics don't happen in Europe. Why wouldn't someone place the robots on the spot where that part of the production happens, and where there is actual labor available to service the robots?

My friend who works in asset management at a big bank constantly talks about this. There is an expectation in his branch that within 10 years the Sweatshops of East Asia will all shut down. New factories will emerge in countries where electricity is the cheapest, producing clothes at a button push.
