These people built their entire political careers on presenting themselves as the greatest trade negotiators on the planet, and they do not even know which governing bodies to negotiate trade deals with.

I've noticed that the standard is lower than that. You don't even have to convince anyone that you're the best at anything, you just have to attack your opponents, be violent, and lie, and sometimes that's enough to win elections.
What's silly is the executive branch doesn't have long term staying power on international trade agreements, the legislative branch does. Why the house hasn't taken back the toys is beyond me.
how does throwing your weight around make you a good negotiator anyways, all it stands to accomplish is generate long term resentment at the cost of some short term gain.

maybe im old fashioned but i would argue that the mark of a good negotiator is someone who is able to form relationships that are based on mutual solidarity and trust.
the kind of deals that last and benefit all parties.
