EntSoc (the REAL ESA, in my book) just sent out an email requesting stories from members (to be anonymized) about how all of this is affected them, with the stated purpose of compiling them and approaching Congress directly.

They have regular events where they go to the Hill already.

I wonder if groups with ≥ $500M endowment feel subject to the EO (https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/ending-illegal-discrimination-and-restoring-merit-based-opportunity/, 4_b_iii) and so they adapt, < $500M they feel they have more freedom to choose a response... while the threshold doesn't move

But seriously, does that mean Black in Microbiology (or if we started one, Natives in Micro, Latino/a in Micro, LGBTQAI+ in micro, etc) could have grants to support research for groups if they have less than $500M? Should we be supporting small groups instead of the big ones?

But there's nothing that says another EO couldn't come out with a threshold of $10M. Or $100.

I'm surprised the big nonprofits aren't doing accounting moves to minimize risk. Something like a double Irish but for nonprofits, and legal (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_Irish_arrangement)
