It's just funny that what finally got ABC News to react wasn't racism, lies, or Islamophobia. It was him getting too close to breaking the illusion that our SCOTUS has any real power if the rest of the government refuses to enforce their rulings.
Now, we know what Trump will do if he steals the 2024 presidential election!
And this also brings new light on Governor Greg Abbott of Texas defying Supreme Court orders!
Republicans seem to do test runs to see how the American public will react!
I think after Nixon tried to claim something similar, it wasn't something people used very often. I don't recall it until recently when the orange clown tried to make it a thing.
Better late than never? Maybe they finally figured out not addressing it at all was a big problem? Or they're trying to get points from the rest of us that have been over it for a long while?
Yeah, I recall Rs going off on "impromptu" tangents at least as far back as Michael Huffington, and that was 30+ years ago.
I miss Tim Russert, who often had little patience with guests ducking the Q to crowbar in unrelated messages -- they'd just be getting started when he pulled the plug on them.
The only good thing that’s come out of a GOP party led by Trump is that authoritarians like this feel empowered to blatantly show their true beliefs. They only believe in Democracy and the Constitution when it favors them. Trust them when they tell you who they are.
Precisely. A better policy would be to not book these people who are unapologetic election deniers in the first place. (but then of course George wouldn't have a viral clip to tout)
Republicans just don't seem to care about how the government is structured anymore. The checks and balances system is elementary school social studies!
Gop: we respect and believe in the Constitution! We believe that the CONSTITUTION allows us to have an omnipotent president who shalt be elected by the people preferably only from one party and all who are unloyal to this is a traitor and should be executed.
Sooooo… in this case there’s nothing in the constitution that enshrined judicial review. That was pretty famously a power grab by the first chief Justice. The court has been ignored in the past and even threatened into submission. The most famous case was Lincoln ignoring them over Dred Scott
Yeah but you can make an argument that ignoring a decision regarding slavery, where it kept the institution alive, denied black citizenship and declared the Missouri Compromise illegal, kept Lincoln on the right side of history. Dred Scott alone solidifies that the Civil War was about slavery.
I think that’s correct. The point is that there is plenty of examples of the Supreme Court being ignored. dred scott was a decision that it doesn’t really have the power to wield. Another famous example is Jackson saying “the chief made his decision. Let’s see him enforce it”
