I'd really rather have an operating system created by people who know how computers work than people who don't know how computers work.

Wrong. The biggest thing stopping Linux is the lack of big OEM and retail partnerships. Your average joe isn't going to download and install ANY operating system, regardless of how easy it is to actually operate. Instead, they would walk into a store and buy whatever PC the salesperson...

That's all true. And many users don't want to see it that way as Microsoft's monopoly continues to push the system requirements higher and forces people to buy a new PC, something that not everyone can afford.

...pitches at them, or from brand recognition, or worse, via ads on Facebook / Tiktok and marketing by influencers. Linux lacks all of these, why is why it's not taking over the consumer desktop market.

Just because it is superior, doesn't mean it'll dominate, eg see VHS vs Betamax.
