I bet you could set up a separate profile for your data use, and have a separate shortcut for that (code --profile ) and that profile can be in light mode, and have a completely different set of extensions etc.
Might be a bit annoying to set up at first, but doable probably.
If profiles don’t work, the other trick I used to do for a similar thing (one vscode to use, one vscode to work on vscode things) is to install Insiders as well, then it’s truly fully separate
I have few different profiles setup in my VS Code instance and it works pretty good, but I tend to forget I have them. (I actually wrote an extension years ago that did profile switching before it was a feature!).
