Out of curiosity, are you doing N5 and all that jazz while studying? I was using du*lingo for over a year to brush up on my Japanese but stopped due to their AI bs so would love to know what you're doing to learn in general if that's not too much hassle? π I'm just learning it for fun though!
I took the N3 exam last month!
I do WaniKani daily, I have weekly 2-hour lessons with a tutor (we use the Genki textbooks), and I do language exchange with a few Japanese friends who I met on HelloTalk -- this includes both texting and audio/video calls. I also read manga in Japanese sometimes.
Oh wow, that's awesome! Congrats on taking N3, that's impressive π If I ever get organised enough I'd love to do it as structured like you are, that's really cool! I learned Japanese from grade 4 to 12 and I really enjoyed it βΊοΈ
Thank you! I hope I passed π€πΌ I'll find out at the end of the month. That's awesome you learned it in school, I wish I had the option! I'm making up for it now βΊοΈ
Something like that! But only in terms of reading. Unfortunately being able to recognise and read kanji doesn't mean I can also write them from memory. That's something I'd like to work on down the line. But considering how these days we mostly just type, writing is less necessary.

I think at my peak I knew ~400 and had the reading level of a 3rd/4th grader. Tempted to give this a go.
Unless it's a passion, it's just not worth it when you can learn to read + recall/type&pick at 3-4x the rate of being able to read and write.
