It's really good! It's a very different tone after the Matt Smith era, and Capaldi is universally fantastic. Even with the couple of meh scripts that you always get each season, Capaldi absolutely elevates the material every time.

To not spoil too much, Capaldi's thing as 12 is he's an unkind/fed up/asshole type that learns to be a better person as his run goes. Some people love the development, others find it annoying to get through him calling humans puddingbrains or not care when a character dies because "oh well".

His first series he is not very likable, but the "learns to be kind again" happens at the end of it. The second series of his onward he is well and truly the Doctor- perhaps the MOST Doctor of anyone to do it with both modern and classic sensibilities, and its fantastic.
