Some personal news: the Department of Homeland Security has given me, an immigration lawyer born in Newton, Massachusetts, seven days to leave the U.S. Does anyone know if you can get Italian citizenship through great-grandparents?

My understanding is that they declared entire classes of immigrant must self-deport (including for example Ukrainian war refugees - that one at least was later retracted) and sent out mass emails indiscriminately according to a list, not addressing each email to a recipient. *What* list is unclear.

Although some recipients (as in the quoted post) are immigration attorneys, it doesn't appear the list was composed of designated points-of-contact for foreigners in the US; some citizen recipients weren't anyone's representative or contact.

Critically, no-one got it personally addressed to them.

This means that if they did get it, it might be an error. Not just the US citizen recipients - ICE definitely sent it to foreigners they later decided they aren't (yet) persecuting. But also people they intended to threaten might not even be aware, might have no warning.

Fairly confident they sent notices out in error to attorneys for immigrants in processing for legal status, along with their clients.
Doesn’t mean Trump won’t attempt to throw natural born Americans out of the country illegally, he’s on camera saying it to Venezuelan leader a few days ago.
