I’m still baffled at how America took one of the basic principles of the presidency — the occupant shouldn’t be able to benefit financially from the office — and just said, nah, that just doesn’t count for this one guy.

I think the whole Lewinsky deal left the Times with permanent grudges against 1. Hillary. 2. The Democratic Party. 3. Their readers and the American public in general for not rejecting Bill as their betters at the Times demanded.

Sort of. First a conservative named Rober Fiske was appointed who wasn’t finding much wrongdoing so he had to be replaced by a much more movement conservative firebrand (Starr) to take over.

There should be an evidentiary standard for proving crime, but the court requiring explicit quid pro quo, essentially a written contract between briber and bribed, to define a bribe, has made obvious bribery almost unprovable.
Thus, Trump didn't award billions in regulatory relief to Musk for $200M.
