I'm constantly being "transvestigated" by people online who "know" I'm a "man" because of my jawline or my long hands or my muscles. (I like to weightlift.)

My feelings aren't hurt because I don't think there's anything wrong with being trans. But it's gross having your body dissected like this.

Years back I wore more make-up and was accused of being a drag queen. My reaction was more confusion than hurt but if it happened now I'd worry about the risk of violence. One of the reasons to react to hate speech is it's often a precursor to hate attacks. Some people hate and fear "differences"

As they point out in this video, transphobes get fixated on this idea that biological gender differences are more dramatic and obvious than they actually are. Most of what we think of as "biological" in terms of body shape, facial features, etc. is exaggerated by clothes and makeup.

So if you start looking for evidence that a man is "feminine" or a woman is "masculine," you're gonna find it. As they point out, cis women who are butch often get harassed more than femme trans women, because the latter distract people with the way they dress.

It's darkly funny to me how many postmenopausal women get sucked into transphobia. Because you know, you're features get a little less conventionally "feminine" as you age. So your odds of getting accused go up. Something to think about.

A self identified TERF and butch lesbian in her 50s admitted to me that in another age she would probably have identified as nonbinary. She didn't want younger women to go down the path towards being nonbinary or trans men so she was campaigning against trans women being treated as "real" women.

Also why I'm not a fan of the idealization within trans spaces of cis women who (by choice or by chance) happen to appear masculine, as if they're intrinsic allies of trans women.
Frequently you'll see the opposite, with them fiercely doubling down that they're actually biological females.

I think also what might suck about it is the constant accusation that you’re somehow lying about who you are when you’re not. Transphobia also rests on the idea that trans people are good liars and they will not be fooled by a very VERY good liar. It’s nonsense
