also, define "nightlife": it's not just bars and clubs. I think there's a generational shift away from bars and clubs, at least in the centre of town, partly because they're awful and expensive. It's not up to younglings to take up getting wasted like their second summer of love elders ... (more)

They were deliberately broad in their definition and kept steering people away from “just pubs and clubs”. At least at a LGA level, there is some good thinking taking place.
Transport provision for shift workers and 24-hour food licenses to support this sector (e.g. near hospitals) was a key point of discussion I thought was quite interesting during the process.
Younger people just don't seem to socialise in the same way. And that's fine! But does require a change
Most of the time, it’s a cinema trip followed by a walk afterwards to debrief.
Younger guys just don't drink in the same way: they'll have a pint, but it's not the aim)
I think they still like to listen to live music but there's not as much of that in town anymore.
I can think of lots of other activities that young people might be into, many of them heathier than late-night drinking, but most of them are daytime or evening activities?
