I am just now learning about this day!

I just sent out invitations for our Play Music on The Porch Day celebration. No backsies now. I’m prepared to play solo harp on the porch for whomever wanders by, but I never actually end up playing alone; bandmates & other musical friends always join me. It’s the Stone Soup story come to life.

It’s definitely a thing. We celebrate it every year. Our porch music is in the morning, because it gets hot here. People drop by to listen; sometimes total strangers step up & sing/play. You don’t have to have a porch, it’s just about sharing music w/folks.

My husband, Mr Cheep, might not be well enough to play, but one of our neighbors has a great porch for this. I'll see if he knows about it. He writes songs, plays guitar, and has a band. And maybe - I hope - Mr Cheep will feel well enough to play a bit by then.

Perfect! Our celebration is always fab mix of styles & skill levels, which is what makes it so fab. (E.g., Mr Hipharpy only sings in public this one day a year; and always a Tom Lehrer song.) Best wishes for Mr Cheep’s speedy return to good health.

August 26th. I should set a band up in my garage and play LOUD punk rock til someone calls the cops. Then when we open the garage door and a wave of marijuana smoke hits the cops, they’ll see we’re all in our Sixties.
