Slept in the back of a BMW M240i press car at Lime Rock because I was broke but really needed to see race car after a miserable early summer. I also stashed my car in the Greenwich Hospital garage and took a train to NY to pick up the BMW because I couldn’t afford parking for 3 days.

When I started one of my past jobs, they had me fill out a form for any off-time I would need right away. It was supposed to be for things like doctor's visits, prepaid vacations, etc.
...but I ended up needing off for my favorite F1 weekends, and two Lemons races.

I had tickets for the 2011 Spanish GP and was selected for a regional math tournament, in high school. One of the rounds was the same weekend as the GP. My teacher wasn't exactly thrilled when I told him I would be going to the GP no matter what.

Had media accreditation for Super Sebring 2023 but couldn't afford a hotel. Someone on the r/WEC subreddit said they had a spare tent going on their campsite plot. So I packed a sleeping bag from the UK and spent four nights sleeping in a tent followed by at least 12 hour days, usually 14-16 hours.

Also one time I skipped class in college during a group project to go to a Tony Stewart autograph session at Universal Orlando. Turned out all but one person in the group skipped that class which I felt bad about but I did get to talk with Tony about his monkey.

I booked myself six weekends straight of racing, starting with working at MIS for free so I could drive an IndyCar (for free) there. Then drove to Indy, by myself, every weekend for the GP, Bump Day, and the 500. Detroit GP the following weekend. And then drove from Detroit to Montreal for F1.

I worked at a track for a few years,Head Marshal and other jobs, and I'd work my regular job. Drive 2 hrs wed night to drag race, drive to work next morning,then leave work fridays to run the track for the weekend. Then, drive back to work Monday morning. And the days I didn't marshal, I raced.

In college, I was having some difficulty understanding a concept during a lesson. Went up to the professor after class for clarification and without prompting (I guess I'd made it blatantly obvious I liked motorsports) he related the concept to racing -- it clicked almost immediately.

Pretending to be ill to avoid a social event with people I hadn't seen in months to stay home and watch the Indy 500. Almost did it again this year but the rain delay meant I could go and get back in time.

Back when I had a credential for the Dover races, I stayed for the rainouts, watched the entire race the next day and immediately did a 8.5-10 hour drive back home to Vermont the same day so I didn’t have to extend PTO or my AirB&B stay

I used to drive my death trap Datsun 350 miles to the track, then 350 miles back in the dead of summer, no AC, choking on fumes, all of my belongings packed in there beside me, trusting on 1970s engineering to see me through two solid days of lapping and of course the round trip.
