The author is right; that Dutton is playing a culture war and replacing reasoned debate with knee jerk disinformation. The simple fact he is trying to discredit the CSIRO is evidence of this.

This sort of disinformation-as-propaganda has its origins in literal fascism; a philosophy that claims the emotions of the subject trump the reason of the expert. I cite Robert Paxton's "Anatomy of fascism," as a reference.
