I know it’s not the audience that typically cares but even better would be sports leagues & teams. If they collectively chose another site it’s game over. They should be under immense pressure to leave Twitter. The WNBA, its teams, & players could lead the way which would force others to act

I think the lack of consensus on which other platform to use means that lots of businesses and gov't agencies have stayed on Twitter (with some secretly or not admiring the owner's inability to keep his right arm down) - they don't want to publish on multiple platforms.

I think that's genuinely something we need - easily accessible/shared, reliable and verified information from government sources. But Twitter doesn't provide that anymore, the people and orgs hanging on there need to realize that.

There are NWS accounts on Mastodon. The bots take the RSS feed item, convert them to Mastodon posts, and repost them. So they avoid going through Twitter.

That site’s hostility to marginalized groups is well-documented enough at this point that it is unethical and immoral for official orgs to use it as a primary communication organ.

Eg, trans people who want to talk to their public servants shouldn’t be required to enter a transphobic space to do so.
