I came across this post on reddit earlier and it made me smile. Thought I'd share it here for all the other Canadians here that might not see it otherwise.

I think the world needs to realize North America is made up of 23 countries. No one should ever say the US and Canada are the same country. They are just not.
Republicans are also looking at Canada with surprise, but for a different reason. They now realize that we don't envy Americans. Being neighbours is ok, but we don't want to be like them. We are a distinct society and proud of it. Our border isn't an artificial line; it's a force field.✌️♥️🍁
I have nothing against Americans. I wish Republicans particularly were mature enough to recognize that my desire to remain Canadian is not a rejection of them in any way. It is just an affirmation of who I already am.
I will never ever relate to a culture that allows citizens in some US states to walk around stores with open carry rapid-fire guns. That is repulsive and insane.
I hate the direction my beloved United States is going. It's hard to see the pride in the flag - probably will be that way until Jan 20, 2029 at the earliest. I shudder at what we might become with this administration.
We've become the a-hole country of the globe. We're at N. Korea/Russia level.
I agree. I’ve noticed Canadians have a more broad world view than most Americans. They don’t have the “I am entitled” reputation that Americans do when they visit other countries & they aren’t well liked when they travel due to their arrogance & air of superiority. Americans are NOT polite people.
As an American I can tell you Canada and Canadians our lovely, I’ve been quite a few times in 63 years but also encounter Canadians here in the states and of course other places in the world…
Never occurred to me were seen in any way, shape, or form as American like, in any way. Interesting read, we are very independent and fiercely Canadian when we need to be. I've always felt closer to Europe than America. I travel to Europe but never cross the American border.
When I was in Beijing years ago, I went to a teahouse. The owner sat with me for nice visit. She asked in Canada and USA were the same. I took a minute, then responded ‘are China and Japan the same?’ Her eyes widened, and then said so Canada and USA are different cultures? Yes, yes we are.
Not to come over all pedantic, but you jumped in on WWI early and lost a lot of your young men and women, only to show the same kind of decency all over again, as mentioned in WWII...and didn't pretend to be the saviors of all that is good and holy.
Although since at the time Canada (like India) shared a Head of State with the rest of the British Empire (as it was) it would have been difficult for them not to intercede when the 'Mother Country' was being attacked. Nevertheless, humility and sacrifice speaks volumes.
It's weird because we're so modest and used to just going about our business that I don't think we ever thought about what we stand for or love or care about until that orange twatwaffle shook us to our core. So it's nice to see that others see what we're just noticing ourselves!
I’m a US citizen and I applaud this! Most of us are ashamed of Trump, so if our allies in Canada and Europe can force a stop to this kakistocracy, have at it.
When you get right down to it we have more in common with Europe and have our own fierce cultural identity. Someone many years ago made it so we are “forced” to watch Canadian content and some US content is limited. I love that for us.

I regret that I had not taken more time to learn about you before now. I am sorry that I merely smiled and nodded in passing.
I respect and admire Canada
I stand with you.
