Yeah no shit but they don't need to look like absolute shit. People thinking they've been redesigned to be like in the style of Puss in Boots Last Wish but this is way far from it.
I flicked back and forth between the two pics and the closest I got to answering this is Donkey has a little more hair and Shrek's nose is less rounded.
There's no issue here, just idiots making drama over nothing.
It’s fine to not like the new character design tweaks, but again, you can’t in good faith call this AI and worse animation than 20 years ago when objective analysis of the lighting, movement/flow of the animation, texturing and general design are clearly iterated upon and not AI/cheap slop.
That’s because the Sonic design fundamentally misunderstood what made the character charming when they first made the CGI design. A slightly older shrek in the Last Wish artstyle with updated animation, textures and lighting does not compare to that. Again, fine to dislike, but it’s not a step back
This is about Shrek, not Sonic. Sonic was a terrible design that barely resembled the original, this is just a slightly different (and older) looking Shrek. It's not comparable in any way whatsoever.
I think I need to see them both in motion more before I can really decided if the designs are that good or bad of a change, although I do think and like that they tried to make Shrek look older.
When I first saw the trailer I was like okay about this but when I saw a YouTuber that I know and love yeah what did they do to Shrek that's not even Shrek anymore that is not our boy but mostly to Fiona too what did they do to her that's not her either
Nostalgia is the only reason they’re making this movie in the first place so seems perfectly fair to play to that. I remember Shrek forever after being billed as the final shrek movie at the time. And now here we are.. why? Nostalgia and money
Can't wait for emo dragons. Granted i appreciate the fact you just mentioned that as a reminder as i am only now standing headfirst with the question of how unprotected dragon and donkey vaginal sex would work when previously the thought remained a distant peripheral pondering.
Shrek looks almost the same, Donkey looks different because the way models with hair and fur are animated have changed so much. I can’t imagine these being what people dislike the most about the trailer.
I’ve had enough of self-referential media, and I certainly don’t want exposure to ai-slop.
Honestly? I approve of the redesigns. They're more cartoony and less realistic, which always kind of teetered into the uncanny valley at times with the Shrek movies.
i think these redesigns are...fine (if you can grow up in 20 years, so can 3D animation), but what exactly happened to that gorgeous painterly artstyle they had going with TLW?
is it more or less a product of how dreamworks' movies are now more outsourced and thus using more costcutting measures?
My assuption is as shrek movies were always kind of riffing on current culture while having a fantansy edge to it, the artstyle choosen was to compliment this fact. TLW was an epic, with the storytelling of one, but with shrek they will probably not do that cus its more of a romp
Exactly what I thought. You can’t even articulate what you dislike about this, you just read some comments on here saying “redesign” and couldn’t help but chime in 😂
I honestly like these designs. They were a little off at first (mostly Donkey). Once I understood they were older versions of the characters, though, they made sense.
It's the fact that these characters are crass and sarcastic and the 2000s art style reflects so well, the art style is literally the series becoming soft, as much as you can say "I don't get it", they are making Shrek quite literally *visually* soft

Fair enough to not like the changes but you cannot in good faith call this generative AI
They look older, but in a good way.
They aged so well.
because that's what the right is influenced by
It has been like 15 years since shrek 4, a lot has changed in the industry since then
Parece mas Dispicable Me.

Other than Donkey's tiny beard & Shrek's wrinkles, I really don't see a difference. Unless you mean the film's art style change.
The OG's eyes are farther apart, especially Donkey's. It looks a bit weird, but I think it's alright!

I'll look it up when I get home.
This shit's killing me inside.
