I still don't understand why people tend to specify the color of skin? What important is the work he's done and what he has achieved, not the color of his skin. Amazing costumes for sure! Also, I think Black Panther's designer got it first..might be mistaken (was he just nominated and didn't win?)

If you can't understand the importance of it being mentioned, then it's a lost cause. It's important because he's the first black man to win an Oscar for best costume design. Ruth E. Carter was the first woman. To be the first in the 97 awards, that is significant.

It's not significant to me, because I don't see people for skin color, I see people for who they are, that's all. No lost cause here. I have Mexican, African-American, Asian, Russian and Ukrainian friends. It's great that he won and celebrates it. The costumes were amazing in the movie.

Well, you're proving a point why it's significant. You're not affected by racism or discrimination. Just because you have friends doesn't change the history of POC or those, you know, not white in relation to the Oscars. You're either very young or very sheltered.

I'm in closet... literally :)
I just think that people should go out and talk to different people with different backgrounds more often. Because sometimes people forget that we all are people, no matter race, gender or any other aspect...too many labels. Why singling out one aspect of his persona?

He won not because he's black, but because he did an amazing, outstanding job. It doesn't matter if he's first of the second. What matters is that he's won it against other amazing (artists?) too. P.s. was Nosferatu costume designer also nominated? I thought I saw that black dress from the movie...
