Finally it looks like we might be getting somewhere. I think by now even the CDU has realized that we are in deep shit if we don't mobilize massive resources to turn this ship around - not just in regards to the military but - and maybe even more importantly - on domestic issues.

SPD has been careful. Merz outright claimed to be a staunch supporter of the concept of the debt break right up to the election, claiming investment into defense could be done without increasing debt.

I think of German policy as one of these massive container freighters. Changing course takes stupid amounts of energy and time, nobody does it lightly. She’s not fickle or agile, but once she’s set course, she’s virtually unstoppable. What she lacks in grace she makes up in determination.
