The Word For World is Forest is essential decolonialist/environmentalist reading. It followed me around for a week after my first read and still lives in my head rent-free. Le Guin never misses.
Le Guin and Tolkien both understood the need for escape.
I like Le Guin's use of the captured soldier metaphor better but I do like Tolkien's mention of the need to imagine something outside one's prison when one cannot get out.
