No, actual autism rates have not increased. To the contrary. A number of studies (start with Bruga, Univ of Leicester) have confirmed that actual rates have been stable for a loooonnng time.

On the other hand, *diagnosis* rates have indeed increased. (changes in DX criteria, DSM-V etc.)

Thank you for this thread; information like this is sorely needed. One quibble -- I would clarify that "massive study" does not always equal good evidence -- quality matters, not just sample size. Agree on the substance though; no rigorous evidence for a link between vaccines and autism!

Autism rates have not increased. What has increased is the number of people who have always been autistic who have access to a diagnosis. I'm one of those, diagnosed at age 67. There are whole generations of autistic people in the world right now who don't know they're autistic.
