Today's reminder: the autistic spectrum means each person has their own specific version of autism, shaped by their internal and external environment and life experience, expressed in a unique way. It's all of this, not just one part. Autism can't be a linear scale going from less to more autistic.

A university campus with decently funded humanities programs is one of the few sites—or maybe even the only place—where you might realize that your "middle-of-the-road" opinion is actually a quite partisan point of view that serves to perpetuate the political, economic, and intellectual status quo.

Could folks stop projecting their pet causes on #autistic people? The autism feed is full of: “It’s def not vacines, but maybe autism is caused by [thing the poster hates]!” Autistic people aren’t your tokens. Your fearmongering about us is for your benefit, not ours. It’s unwanted & offensive.

To be absolutely clear: RFK framing vaccines as the "cause" of Autism is eugenics. First and foremost its wrong by every scientific standard. But also theres an implication that we need to "cure" or prevent Autism. Neurodivergence is not a bad thing.

Of course that would impair the narrative that autism is a modern 'problem' we want to prevent, with easy causes to identitlfy, rather than something which has always existed but was suppressed like left handers used to be.
