Are trends a thing in game production? I've seen studios going from cross discipline based teams, to craft, then back to cross. And this over the span of ~10 years

Usually not a trend but related to team composition: if production led, most likely cross discipline. If director led, usually craft. Depends on influences, mainly a political thing. (Craft based is hard to justify outside of specific outsourcing)
I've seen things like:"this studio works like this, we should do the same", going from one studio to another like dominos. When the chain circles back to the original one, it is not rare to hear:"yeah we tried that a few years ago, didn't work".
Different studios,dif games, dif teams, dif workflow.
And I imagine if some key people move to other companies, then they push for a certain setup in the new one too. I guess it's all about change management. And what fits for each company
