They swear that oath, but the president, as the head of the executive branch, is the top law enforcement officer; ergo his word goes. Theoretically, it goes unless what he orders would violate the constitution. Practically? I'd be surprised if most LEOs made the right choice if push comes to shove.

There is a Congressional Police force. Those are answerable to Congress, not the president, with that said, I think that it has to have a vote to allow it and we likely know how THAT will go.

I still kind of wish that Ds would push to vote. When Rs either refuse to vote, or they vote No, it'll give Ds more ammunition to bring to news outlets and ask why, on air, would Republicans either refuse to vote, or vote no?

There is also the question of jurisdiction. I doubt congressional police have the authority to enter into other Government Agencies, let alone arrest trespassers.

I looked into it... turns out their jurisdiction is generally limited to protecting members of congress and the Capital grounds. They can assist other law enforcement agencies, but that requires special authorization by congress (which isn't going to happen right now)
