Mr Carter was a beacon for those of us who understand this world is not our home,yet being a good citizen is important. His politics was informed by his faith. That order is sorely missing.

I want nothing to do with anybody who claims that Jimmy Carter was not a real Christian. That tells me everything I need to know about them. Jimmy Carter was one of the best of us, & a living example of my idea of an actual New Testament Christian.

I’m not sure if the reactions to Carter’s death reveals anything new that we did not already know about the corruption at the heart of so much of American Christianity, given the degree of vocal support they lavished on Trump. It has sadly long been obvious to any who can see.

The same ones who question whether Carter is a “real” Christian don’t seem to express much doubt whether Trump is, despite his public comments about the Bible, his favorite verse being “an eye for an eye” and his assertion that he doesn’t need God’s forgiveness because he’s never done anything bad.

I wish I knew how Jesus would handle this moment in time. It seems like He would have clarity. He would see through all the smoke and mirrors and do things that matter. How I pray we followers of Jesus (however that's defined) will be able to see how He is leading us to live.

At the crux of your essay seems to be the issue of "Jesus and..."

I think one of the biggest surprises when we meet Jesus will be how limited our perspective was on the way the Christian "temple" -- apart from the foundation that has already been laid -- can be built.
