Yeah, all for mixed format—with a few slides (data/premade graphics) and open discussion/needling, maybe a bit of drawing on a board. The straight drawing with no data irks me. Rewards those that draw well on the fly, which is not necessarily a good predictor of scientific ability.

Right on. Really liked the ability to draw some key things on the board pre-B&B – including figures & acknowledgements – to be able to relieve some of that pressure.

Now, back to proper bridge-dying matters: northeastern sports (NY > PHL >> BOS), Oxford commas (yes), and spaces after a period (2)

Last point: Big proponent here of in-house WIP chalk talks among departments / subgroups / lab clubs. Loved one of these at UTSW - Pharmacology's B&Bs were off-charts great for refining paper and proposal ideas - and loving similar efforts by CCNY's Marilyn Gunner in our biophysics community.
