The issue is no one is going to buy Super Soccer on the Virtual Console for $8. They're just going to buy an 11th version of SMB1. VC is fine if there are just a few games you want, but if you're buying a lot it'll become prohibitively expensive unless you're Hideki Kamiya or Scott the Woz.

I mean, probably at least enough that they thought it was worth adding the Expansion Pack tier, where the main benefit is more retro games.

It has DLC too but I can't imagine that many are subbing to Expansion for Booster Course Pass when they might as well just buy it outright.

You wanna buy a bunch of SNK games via Arcade Archives? Prepare to pay a truckload for them.

Really the better way is just to do collections. Have a City Connection Collection, Jaleco Collection, etc. You could even print them to physical that way.

You’re right, Nintendo’s pricing leaves a lot to be desired. VC games should be £3 / £4 tops. Doing game collections is a great idea, although sadly Nintendo-published ones are locked nice and tight. We won’t be seeing them anywhere else.

Yeah and that kinda feels like the problem. Like, Nintendo won't put their own games on a new VC or a collection, but they're "safe" from being delisted anyway. On the flip side, a lot of the other games on NSO that aren't "safe", people wouldn't buy even if they WERE on VC.

I've played a decent number of random games on NSO, but only bc they were part of the sub. And some some them were fun! But it would never occur to me to buy+play...Vice Project Doom, Journey to Silius, or Fighter's History if they were thrown on the eShop.

(But collections are always tempting)
