My kid is 15 and just wants to play shinny with his friends all the time. It's so hard to find rinks that have time for kids his age. That he can get to. Easily, with equipment. That don't require me driving him.
I used to drive a semi truck around rural Minnesota to deliver propane and you'd be amazed at how many homes I came across where someone built their own rink to flood with water right before winter hit. It would turn into an all-winter private rink for the people's kids.
long ago I lived in Over-the-Rhine Cincinnati. one day as I was coming back from a (very muddy) MTB ride two boys from the apt next door asked me what I was up to. And that’s the short version of how I got two Black juniors into one of the whitest sports on earth. Kids want to do stuff outside.
