“Tomorrow,” said Toad, “I can just take life easy.” Toad went back to bed.

Do not call me out like this

Next frontier in North American rail transit needs to be regional rail. Infrastructure’s there, just gotta change how we’re using it.

This is what I have been thinking about in response to local municipalities banning youth from e-dirt bikes and scooters. Youth perspectives are not likely included in convos. If rider safety is the primary concern, provide helmets, and enforce speed limits on both e-riders and drivers.

Still time for your community to host a ride!

Discworld QOTD, from Night Watch "But here's some advice, boy. Don't put your trust in revolutions. They always come around again. That's why they're called revolutions."

Appreciate these expansive teak bench platforms on top of elevated tree planters in Kendall. Adapting something kludgy (awkward raised planters) into something useful (lounging space under shade) is pretty cool

Today’s anti-AI vent: I have a complicated issue related to setting up a new service that requires a company to contact a shipper and manually override an address. This is very clearly not something that an AI-facilitated chatbot can remotely handle, despite what [unnamed company] might think.

If swallowed, water beads can expand in a child's intestines and cause injuries or death. Do not let young children play with water beads this summer.

Great series of articles on the erosion of public spaces in our cities and how that loss particularly affects youth participation and inclusion.

A large number of ICE field offices have X accounts where they post regular photo updates. Search long enough and you'll find some that aren't censored. For example, this photo is from a joint operation in Orlando, FL and was posted on March 11. Sharing for reasons.

This is Deku. He's approximately three stories tall. Shedding season is a public health concern. 14/10

oooooooooooooooo

confirming: at Bolts, our traffic from BlueSky last month was much higher than our traffic via X twelve or twenty-four months ago. And it's way way way higher than the cratered traffic we get from X now.

It was worth it.

I especially like how this article on redlining emphasizes the importance of agency and calls out the idea of feeling like we found "the villain" that caused it all, case closed, rather than acknowledging and addressing individual involvement in systemic racism.

Sorry to the Sun-Times newsletter editors who have to deal with it, but the typo in this morning’s edition did get a laugh from me

Ooh missed this getting published! Brown does great work with his podcast - would love to read this soon.

Wait what

I Photoshop Paddington into a movie, TV show, or pop culture until I forget: Day 1532

if you're trying to avoid spoilers for your favourite shows, we recommend turning off your devices and coming to The Museum of English Rural Life

duolingo recently declared they are now an AI-first company. well, here at The Museum of English Rural Life, we pride ourselves in being EI-first. EI EI O

Yes, they will. #WorldBollardAssociation

Hear me out: what if we turned all the lighter red area into natural area or solar/wind farms. Indianapolis could really be a leader in sustainability if we wanted to because there is just SO MUCH LAND, but you always get the sense the appetite is not there from city leaders

I65 gets closed nearly everyday in Indiana because of something like this and we chalk it up to the cost of doing business

Well. I'm trying it out. These files are massive! Had to drop it to 360 from 720p. No sound because otherwise it's just the whine of the ebike and my brakes. Would love some insight on how y'all manage the file size and quality ratios.

It’s also because bloated American SUVs/pickups often flunk European safety rules that protect pedestrians.

the energy we need. 🇻🇦

Someone needs to write this story from the elephant’s point of view.

I did most of my bike shopping with two saddlebags and a backpack until I got my cargo bike. Simplicity is underrated!

Like us, ZĂĽrich foolishly built a light rail line along a surface freeway. As part of a development plan for Ueberlandpark Station, however, they just built a 950m/0.6mi park over the freeway to connect divided neighborhoods

Recent career/life tip: if you ever have the opportunity to join a group of passionate elders in your industry that hang out regularly, do it! (This afternoon’s Transiteers gathering was brunch at the Iguana Cafe in Fulton River)

Discworld QOTD, from The Color of Magic “Rincewind tried to force the memory out of his mind, but it was rather enjoying itself there, terrorizing the other occupants and kicking over the furniture.”

Need to check out some garage sales and haul your new treasures (mini foosball table!) home after? There’s a Mpls Cargo Bike Library bike for that. 🚲 ❤️

Co-sign. I'll be blunt: this is vehicular bullying.
